About the Project
The IPAL OER Project facilitated 62 open educational projects at 18 private colleges and universities in Iowa in 2021-2022. As a result of these innovative faculty projects, 1800 Iowa college students benefited from reduced textbook costs.
In March 2021, the Iowa Private Academic Libraries (IPAL) consortia received a grant through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) fund to promote open educational resources (OER) at participating member institutions. Dordt University, as the lead institution for the IPAL OER Project, acted as the fiscal agent on behalf of Iowa Private Academic Libraries. IPAL was responsible for selecting the faculty mini-grant recipients at multiple Iowa institutions. These faculty members were compensated for integrating open educational resources in their courses. Faculty adopted OER materials, remixed materials, created support tools, redesigned courses, and created new open resources.
